"Now help, St George, oure lady knyght ... to strengthe our Kyng and England ryght": rare scenes of Saint George in a wall painting at Astbury, Cheshire

Transactions of the Lancashire and Cheshire Antiquarian Society(91 for 1995):91-102.

The article discusses the scenes of the Virgin knighting St. George and the princess beseeching the saint to protect her from the dragon. The fragment which remains in St. Mary's parish church may have originally been one of the most extensive cycles of wall painting in England.
